The U.S. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer issued a series of subpoenas Tuesday, demanding the Department of Justice hand over the full, unredacted Jeffrey Epstein files by August 19th.

Comer also announced plans to depose several high-profile figures in the coming months, including former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The subpoenas are part of the committee’s broader probe into the federal government’s handling of sex trafficking laws and the Epstein investigation.

Jeffrey Epstein was charged with sex trafficking and died by suicide in jail in 2019. His associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, was arrested on similar charges in 2020 during the Trump administration and was convicted in 2021.

“It is imperative that Congress conduct oversight of the federal government’s enforcement of sex trafficking laws,” Comer wrote in a subpoena to Attorney General Pam Bondi.

In addition to the Clintons, the Republican-led panel subpoenaed former Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, Alberto Gonzales, and current Attorney General Merrick Garland, as well as former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller. Committee Republicans say the testimony and documents are essential to their investigation into how the Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases were handled.

A congressional subpoena is a formal legal order issued by a congressional committee or individual compelling their testimony.
