President Donald Trump will be recognized for his role in brokering a settlement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) has been renamed in honor of President Donald Trump on the eve of a peace agreement signing ceremony between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.

“This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute of Peace to reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation’s history. Welcome to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace,”  the department posted on social media, adding

The best is yet to come.

On December 4th—in line with renaming the Institute—President Trump is scheduled to attend the signing of a peace agreement between DRC president Félix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame. The longtime president of Rwanda—which appears to be winning decisively in ground battles with its often turbulent neighbor—will meet with Trump and the DRC leader in the newly renamed Donald J. Trump U.S. Institute of Peace.

More than five months after both countries’ foreign ministers last met with Trump in this capacity, the White House said that the two African heads of state would now sign a peace agreement, ending the conflict.

However, on the eve of Trump’s latest meeting, intense fighting raged in the eastern DRC, where the Rwandan-backed terrorist group M23 has been gaining ground in recent weeks against Kinshasa’s forces.

“Many houses have been bombed, and there are many dead,” said René Chubaka Kalembire, an administrative official in Kaziba, a town under M23 control.

The news follows previous dealmaking in Rwanda by Trump, where he persuaded the country to accept migrants deported from the U.S.
