Syrian state media reported that a U.S.-led anti-jihadist coalition killed an Iraqi IS leader during an operation on Wednesday, August 20, in northwest Syria.
The operation targeted Salah Numan, an Iraqi national and IS leader, in a house in the town of Atme, Idlib.
Numan, known as Ali, was described as one of the most dangerous men for his role in activating IS cells in Syria.
Witnesses, including the building’s owner, heard aircraft and gunfire after midnight. While IS once controlled large areas of Syria and Iraq, it was defeated in 2019, though its fighters still operate, particularly in Syria’s desert.
