The United States has launched another wave of air and military strikes against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in Syria in response to a December attack that killed two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter during a raid near Palmyra.
According to U.S. officials, the strikes were carried out on Saturday afternoon local time across several regions of Syria, with the participation of partner forces. The operation forms part of “Hawkeye Strike,” launched by Washington on December 19, 2025, following the December 13 attack on U.S. and allied Syrian forces near Palmyra, killing two U.S. soldiers and a civilian interpreter.
In a statement, the Pentagon and U.S. Central Command said the United States would not stand idly by in the face of attacks against its troops and would continue efforts to dismantle the terrorist organisation. The strikes targeted ISIS infrastructure, weapons depots, and command posts, though exact locations and casualty figures were not disclosed.
Syria recently joined the global coalition against ISIS, but the December raid has posed a serious test to the improving U.S.-Syrian relationship following the removal of Bashar al-Assad a year ago.
