Comedy’s Stacey Guthrie has revealed how her ‘gender critical’—i.e., scientific and common sense—views got her cancelled from the entertainment industry.

Guthrie’s problems resurfaced when the owner of her 800-strong ‘females in comedy’ WhatsApp group reacted to the UK Supreme Court ruling which clarified that the term “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refers to biology. A “Trans Women are Women” meme was posted, backed by the suggestion that the entire group shared this view. Guthrie messaged the owner privately to suggest this was not the case.

Within two days, the comedian was emailed to say she was out of the group, as her private message meant her ‘behaviour’ endangered the mental health of other group members. This was followed by Guthrie’s influential agent contacting her, repeating unfounded allegations from ‘lots of actors.’ Despite obeying an instruction from the agent to delete her social media accounts, she was called back later that day, accused of ‘bullying’ her agent, and dropped from the professional roster.

This is not the first time the “Hard Cell actress has been cancelled this way. As she recalls

My first cancellation happened around three years ago when I pointed out to an extremely high-profile casting director that a video he shared on Twitter had been heavily edited, making it look like a trans-identified male was being attacked by security. In fact, the unedited video showed that the male had initiated the aggression and was being physically removed from the venue to protect the women attending the event.

Guthrie does not expect to come back from her second cancellation to the same type of career she worked to build up before. She calls this “a huge relief … I can now work on my own terms, authentically and truthfully.” The toxic politics of transgender activism means she will be joining the likes of Graham Linehan—co-creator of beloved sitcom “Father Ted”—on the blacklist now afflicting the entertainment industries.
