Industry representatives have warned that thousands of jobs will be lost if Britain’s Net Zero project continues.
Oil and gas trade association Offshore Energies UK has penned an open letter to PM Keir Starmer in which Chief Executive David Whitehouse anticipates job losses driven by Ed Miliband’s push to kill off new North Sea licences, prospecting for hydrocarbon reserves. Likewise, Labour’s windfall taxes on fossil fuels are presented as a source of real uncertainty for investors.
According to Whitehouse
Today, we are seeing skilled jobs being lost on a scale that would be unacceptable in any other sector … Almost 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in the UK oil and gas sector are set to be lost every month between now and 2030. But with supportive government policies, it doesn’t have to be this way.
Britain imported 40% of its energy last year, increasing emissions while cutting local jobs and tax revenue. As EuropeanConsertvaive.com has explained previously, the problem is one of destructive policies rooted in green ideology pushed by captive political parties.
