Ukrainian ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar has caused outrage by stating that countries who do not send their troops to Ukraine as part of a “stabilization mission” will not be allowed to take part in the post-war reconstruction of the country.

After a Polish reporter pointed out that 62% of Poles are against sending Polish soldiers to Ukraine on a peacekeeping mission, Bodnar said:

French troops will enter Dnipro or Lviv, because they will be deployed there. They will be followed by [French] companies, who will take part in the reconstruction of Ukraine. But where will Polish businesses be?

Former left-wing Polish prime minister Leszek Miller reacted by saying that Poland is “unlucky” when it comes to Ukrainian ambassadors.

Now we have another gentleman who behaves in an impertinent way. … Poland is a country that has provided Ukraine with a lot of aid, both in terms of money and equipment.

Indeed, Poland has been one of the staunchest supporters of Ukraine.

As U.S. President Donald Trump seeks to bring about a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, France and Britain are planning to send European “reassurance forces” to “certain strategic locations” in Ukraine if a peace treaty with Russia is reached.

However, there is a deep rift in Europe, with many EU member states unwilling to commit troops.
