Ukraine has ordered the evacuation of thousands of children and their parents from frontline settlements in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions as Russian troops continue advancing.

Restoration Minister Oleksiy Kuleba said more than 3,000 people were evacuated from 44 settlements only on Friday, January 2nd, with operations also underway in the northern Chernihiv region near Belarus.

Since June 1st, about 150,000 residents have been relocated to safer areas, including nearly 18,000 children and over 5,000 people with limited mobility.

The evacuations come after one of the largest Russian drone attacks on Zaporizhzhia, with at least nine drones striking residential buildings and infrastructure overnight. Ukraine’s Air Force reported that 116 long-range drones were fired in total, with 86 intercepted.
