Kyiv and Washington are holding fresh talks on a potential agreement that would give the United States access to Ukrainian natural resources in return for further military support, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said.

“It is always important to strengthen the presence of American business in Ukraine, so this process is ongoing, and we will work with our American colleagues to reach a mutually acceptable text for signing,” Sybiga said during a press conference in Kyiv.

The announcement comes as the Russian advance in Ukraine slows for the fourth consecutive month—according to an AFP analysis of data from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Following President Zelensky’s disastrous visit to the White House in February and President Trump playing hardball diplomacy, it is unclear whether the two countries really will come to a “mutually acceptable” version of the agreement.
