Successful international tariff negotiations will involve pressure on Britain to repeal its “hate speech” laws. Sources close to JD Vance made this claim while following up the U.S. vice president’s first major European media interview this week, describing his concerns over Britain’s hate speech laws as a “red line.”

While the UK currently enjoys transatlantic tariffs set by Washington at a rate of 10%, the British government is keen on a more favourable arrangement. Sources told The Independent that 

The vice-president expressing optimism is a way of putting further pressure on the UK over free speech. If a deal does not go through, it makes Labour look bad.

Labour, meanwhile, is quite proficient at looking bad independently of JD Vance’s involvement.
