The incident follows claims by Austria’s justice minister that there is “no basis” to act against Antifa.

A Vienna wine bar was vandalised late Tuesday, just hours after an Antifa-linked group urged supporters online to target the venue.

Vino, located in the city centre, was found on Wednesday morning with walls, furnishings, and furniture smeared with paint. Staff arrived at a “disturbing” scene, police said.

The attack followed a social-media post by gfoa_w – Group for Organized Antifascism Vienna, which urged followers to protest at Vino and other bars it claimed were frequented by right-wing activists. The post singled out restaurateur Heinz Pollischansky, encouraging supporters to “annoy” him with negative reviews, emails, and fake reservations. It quickly drew more than a thousand likes and dozens of comments.

Police have not confirmed whether the vandalism was politically motivated, but the timing has prompted questions. There is no information yet on whether additional precautions have been taken at other establishments named in the post.

The incident comes shortly after Justice Minister Anna Sporrer (Social Democratic Party) dismissed calls to act against Antifa, saying in September that she “does not know Antifa as such” and saw “no basis for a ban,” despite recent violent episodes attributed to the movement.
