Belligerent PM Tusk uses hawkish rhetoric, urging Europe to treat conflict with Russia as a real and lasting threat; Viktor Orbán is not convinced.

Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum on Tuesday, September 30th, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Europe is entering a “new type of war” with Russia and must treat the conflict as a long-term threat.

The Polish PM urged Western leaders to recognize the high stakes, saying that a defeat would affect future generations.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary pushed back against what he considers reckless warmongering. Responding to Tusk’s remarks, Orbán wrote on X:

You may think that you are at war with Russia, but Hungary is not. Neither is the European Union. You are playing a dangerous game with the lives and security of millions of Europeans. This is very bad!

Meanwhile, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky called for a joint European air defense shield to protect against Russian drones and missiles. He said regional cooperation would provide enough weapons and production capacity to defend the continent.
