Immigration policies split the last coalition—now PVV's Geert Wilders aims to deliver on his promises.

The Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), led by Geert Wilders, will vote on Thursday, July 3rd, in favor of two key asylum laws, backing emergency measures and the introduction of a dual status system.

“They have not been stripped down, but even tightened up,” Wilders said on X, referring to the much-debated proposed legislation. “Such as by adopting our amendment that makes illegality punishable.”

Describing the vote as “a step in the right direction,” Wilders nevertheless emphasized that the proposed laws do not go far enough. He announced that the PVV will reintroduce its full ten-point immigration plan at the next elections, calling for immediate border control, halting family reunification, and requiring asylum seekers from Syria to return to their country of origin.

Additionally, the PVV wants to abolish the distribution law that spreads asylum seekers across municipalities. Deporting foreign nationals convicted of crimes and closing down asylum reception centers (AZCs) are the main talking points for Wilders and his party.

“The Netherlands must become the Dutch’s again and the Dutch must come first again,” Wilders declared.
