The Austrian capital witnesses its second stabbing incident this week, as a 25-year-old woman is found seriously wounded.

A 25-year-old woman was found critically injured in a Vienna apartment in the Meidling district on Thursday morning, following a stabbing. Neighbors alerted authorities after hearing cries for help.

Police—assisted by the special unit WEGA—discovered the woman with life-threatening stab wounds. She was immediately provided emergency medical care by the Vienna professional rescue service and transported to a hospital’s shock room. “Her life is in danger,” the  State Police Directorate confirmed.

The alleged weapon, a kitchen knife, was seized at the scene. A 25-year-old man, also in the apartment, was taken into custody on suspicion of committing the attack. He sustained minor injuries and received treatment at a hospital before being placed in police detention.

The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear.

Just a few days ago a 16-year-old girl was injured in a knife attack in a Viennese high school.  The teenager was quickly taken to a hospital and is reported to be out of life-threatening danger. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
