Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky is travelling to London today, December 8th, after U.S. president Donald Trump criticized him for failing to read Washington’s peace proposal.
The criticism comes after days of inconclusive talks in Miami where Kyiv and U.S. envoys agreed only to continue negotiations.
Zelensky will meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron, to coordinate the next diplomatic steps. Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper heads to Washington as London and Washington reaffirm their commitment to a peace deal.
Zelensky insisted the talks with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were “constructive,” even as Trump expressed frustration. Parts of the U.S. plan—which includes territorial concessions and limited security guarantees—have already been rejected by Moscow.
French President Emmanuel Macron warned that lasting peace requires strong security assurances for Kyiv and renewed pressure on Russia.
