Protesters—many of them holding foreign (especially Mexican) flags—have been causing chaos in Los Angeles over the past three days, attacking police officers, setting cars on fire and vandalising (sometimes even looting) small businesses.
If previous American riots are anything to go by, these scenes could be a foretelling of what may soon come to Europe.
The action follows Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids on alleged illegal migrants, but has predictably been embroiled in other causes too. Some activists wrapped themselves in the Communist flag, while others wearing keffiyehs and branding the Palestinian flag protested Israel’s war against Hamas.
New York Post columnist Miranda Devine suggested that President Donald Trump “could not have asked for a better advertisement for his tough border policies” than these flag-wavers.
He always said that the millions of illegal aliens who swarmed over the border under Joe Biden was an invasion, and here were the invaders making his point for him.
The paper adds that other protesters taking part in the chaos have links to the Democratic Party, and even to the Chinese Communist Party.
Some establishment outlets have, as expected, painted the action as peaceful, and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass has even been accused—by Homeland Security, no less—of protecting “violent rioters and criminal illegal aliens at the expense of the safety of American citizens and communities.”
More in tune with the reality of the situation, Trump sent in the National Guard on Sunday, in what is understood to have been the first time the Guard has been deployed to deal with urban disorder since 1965.
The president has demanded that people rioting in face masks be arrested, even describing those responsible for the chaos as “paid Insurrectionists!” He added, however, that “these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve.”
I am directing [officials] … to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots. Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free.
