Germany’s Self-Determination Act has sparked heated debate across the country, as reports emerge of male prisoners declaring themselves female and seeking transfer to women’s prisons, including a convicted rapist.
This outrageous law, which took effect in May last year, was championed by Green Party leaders Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck, who had made it a flagship policy during the 2021 election campaign. The law allows anyone aged 14 and older to change their legal gender once a year, without requiring any medical documentation, expert opinion, or surgery.
Allowing convicted rapists to be locked in together with potential victims on their say-so is fundamentally wrong and just proves how far liberal ideas have strayed from the real world.
It was long obvious that the law could be abused, and now Germans can see that in effect. According to reports, at least eleven inmates across the German prison population have changed their gender registration or requested transfer to another wing since the law came into effect. The actual number may be higher, as not all states systematically record such cases.
Among those taking advantage of the law is an inmate convicted of rape. A federal survey of state justice ministries reveals that male prisoners are already being transferred to women’s wings.
All reported cases occurred after the Self-Determination Act took effect, excluding inmates who may have transitioned before that time.. Authorities have not released any official figures about whether any men transferred to the women’s section have committed any sexual crimes.
