The city of Hanover has sparked nationwide outrage after distributing a controversial recommendation list of ‘queer books’ to its 41 municipal daycare centers.
The recommendation list was compiled by the city’s ‘queer employee network’ under the guidance of the commissioner for sexual and gender diversity. According to a city spokeswoman, the materials are intended for use in nurseries, kindergartens, and after-school care facilities.
One of the most shocking entries is the book Körper sind toll (‘Bodies are is great’) aimed at toddlers. While it claims to promote body positivity, it features double-page illustrations of women who have had their breasts removed to appear as ‘trans men.’ These characters are depicted with visible, jagged surgical scars below their nipples.
Another recommended title, Untenrum: Und wie sagst du? (‘Down below: And what do you call it?’), is aimed at children as young as three. It provides explicit instructions on how children can perform ‘self-examinations’ of their genitals using tools like flashlights and mirrors. The book even depicts scenes of kindergarteners engaging in ‘body games.’ The text notes that adults should not participate in such “games.”
For primary school children, the city recommends Me and My Dysphoria Monster, a story about a boy who identifies as a girl. His gender dysphoria is personified as a monster that grows whenever he is addressed by his biological name. This psychological framing is designed to teach children that biological reality is a burden and that ‘transitioning’ is the only path to happiness.
This madness is not limited to Hanover. In Berlin’s Reinickendorf district, the state-funded youth art school is now offering drag courses for teenagers aged 13 to 17. For a fee of just €45, the course invites participants to “Discover your drag persona,” from lessons in makeup, dance, and lip-sync to developing stage characters, regardless of whether they identify as boys, girls, or otherwise.
From the nurseries of Hanover to the classrooms of Berlin, the German state appears to be institutionalizing a radical ideology that targets the most vulnerable members of society.
