U.S. Vice President JD Vance doubled down on his criticism of Europe, stating that the continent is “at risk of engaging in civilizational suicide” by not protecting its borders and allowing in millions of migrants from other parts of the world.
In an interview with Fox News, Vance said many European countries “are unable to or unwilling to control their borders.”
If you have a country like Germany where you have another few million immigrants coming in from countries that are totally culturally incompatible with Germany, then it doesn’t matter what I think about Europe, Germany will have killed itself.
He also criticised European nations for limiting the free speech of their own citizens, “even as those citizens are protesting against things like the border invasion that got Donald Trump and a number of European leaders elected.”
This is not the first time that JD Vance has made his disdain for Europe’s liberal elites publicly known.
Only a month ago, at the Munich Security Conference, he stunned European leaders with his brutally honest speech, in which he talked about “the threat from within, the retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values.”
He mentioned the annulment of an entire election in Romania, the moves to censor free speech by the European Commission, and the decision by mainstream parties to maintain a cordon sanitaire around populist parties which are becoming more and more popular.
I believe deeply that there is no security if you are afraid of the voices, the opinions, and the conscience that guide your very own people.
During his trip to Germany, the vice president met the right-wing AfD co-leader Alice Weidel, which sparked a backlash from the establishment parties.
With regards to his own administration’s policies, JD Vance said that under the leadership of Donald Trump, they have reversed the pro-migration policies of Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, and “we’ve almost accomplished complete border security.”
You have places that had 1500 illegal encounters a day. Now they’re at 30 illegal encounters a day. We’ve cut illegal border crossings by well over 95 percent. And frankly, I think those numbers are going to continue to come down.
