Europe should stop lying to voters or risk destroying “the entire democratic project of the West,” Vance has warned.

US Vice President JD Vance again this week guided European leaders down the path of listening to and implementing the wishes of their voters and making the continent stand on its own two feet without relying too heavily on America.

And, once again, much of the mainstream media chose to frame his comments as an attack.

Vance spoke to UK outlet UnHerd for an article published on Tuesday—his first major interview with a European publication—and said on the constant betrayal of European voters on migration in particular:

We’re very frustrated—‘we’ meaning me, the President, certainly the entire Trump administration—that European populations keep on crying out for more sensible economic and migration policies, and the leaders of Europe keep on going through these elections, and keep on offering the European peoples the opposite of what they seem to have voted for.

In a message that applies to so many of Europe’s leading ‘democracies,’ Trump’s second-in-command added:

The entire democratic project of the West falls apart when the people keep on asking for less migration, and they keep on being rewarded by their leaders with more migration.

Press agencies described Vance’s declaration of “love” for Europe and the European people as “rare favourable comments,” as though his previous statements have not been made to help the continent break free from its (largely self-inflicted) malaise. On the contrary, we at europeanconservative.com highlighted after the Munich security conference speech that

He gave a devastating critique of the EU and UK leaders who have themselves betrayed the foundations of European democracy and Western civilisation. They are the ones who are attacking what Europe should stand for.

Europe’s primary leaders are, however, likely to take the same line as those in the establishment press—namely, that Vance is talking out of line and should mind his own business. Unfortunately, they have revealed themselves to be just as unfazed when similar messages are delivered by their own voters.
