Figures released by Germany’s Federal Interior Ministry, headed by Nancy Faeser (SPD), have revealed that since the beginning of last year, 580 criminal offenses were carried out by the far-left, eco-activist Last Generation, a group that former domestic intelligence chief Hans-Georg Maassen has urged authorities to treat as a threat to the country’s democracy.
In comments given to the newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Faeser said:
The Federal Criminal Police Office has created a nationwide situation report for the first time. 580 crimes are attributable to the Last Generation since the beginning of 2022, while 740 people have come to the attention of police. It is mainly about coercion and damage to property.
Faeser went on to say that the government does “not accept that activists violate the rights of others,” adding that the group’s activities not only fail to promote climate protection but, through their extremist methods, end up “massively damaging” the work of others who try to do the same. “In many places, we see the police stepping in and activists ending up in court,” she added, making sure to point out, however, that there are “differences between criminals and extremists.”
Meanwhile, political groups on Germany’s Right wing, like the AfD’s youth wing, despite abiding by the law, are treated as dangerous criminal organizations whose behaviors warrant them being surveilled by the federal government. Similarly, Germany’s globalist establishment has long been working to have the AfD, which according to the latest opinion poll, is the second most popular party, ahead of the SPD, the Greens, and the FDP, banned for participating in the political process.
The news comes after German police late last month conducted nationwide raids against members of the Last Generation who are suspected of helping to finance a criminal enterprise, and after the group’s activists earlier this month brazenly announced that in the weeks ahead, as a part of its “Summer 2023 Plan,” it will carry out protest activities that will target “the rich” and “symbols of modern wealth” so as to “draw attention to the reckless waste” of the richest members of society.
The group, in a statement, said that the federal government allows “super-rich people to destroy our livelihoods day after day,” and insisted that the impending ‘climate catastrophe’ is being created “primarily by the rich.”
Presently, the Munich district court is in the process of determining whether or not Last Generation should be classified as a criminal organization, mainly on the grounds that the group has collected at least €1.4 million in donations—money which prosecutors say has largely been used by members of the Last Generation to commit crimes.
Furthermore, Berlin’s new Senator for Justice Felor Badenburg recently announced that the public prosecutor’s decision not to classify the Last Generation as a criminal organization will be reviewed.
