Passengers onboard a short flight from London Luton to Glasgow were forced to deal with an imposing man who “pushed” female flight attendants and said “I’m going to bomb the plane” on Sunday morning.
In footage shared online, the man can be heard shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) three times before being tackled by others on the flight.
He also shouted “death to America” and “death to [Donald] Trump,” who is currently on a four-day visit to Scotland. Hundreds of demonstrators have reportedly gathered in Aberdeen and Edinburgh to protest the visit.
One passenger told The Sun newspaper that police swarmed the flight upon its arrival in Glasgow:
By this point the guy had calmed down. He’d admitted he didn’t have a bomb. He gave up.
Those on board are also reported to have laughed after the man, before being escorted out, turned and asked for his phone and wallet.
Police Scotland said following the incident that a 41-year-old man had been arrested and—on July 28th—charged. He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on the same day.
It added that videos shared on social media “are being assessed by counter terrorism officers.”
We believe the incident to be contained and that nobody else was involved.
British commentator Mark Littlewood said the flight disruptor should get “40 years in prison for this, surely,” adding: “Preferably in El Salvador.”
