Viktor Orbán said on Tuesday that the assaults of two vacationing Hungarian women in Italy, which we reported on here, happened because of the European Union’s migration policy that “cannot go on any longer.”
Three Moroccan men face trial for the rape and assaults of these women, who were on holiday in Sicily. Lawyers say the suspects—who were in Italy illegally—face eight to 14 years’ imprisonment.
Orbán described this as further proof—as if any more was needed—that the Commission’s approach to ‘border control’ is “unacceptable.”
Instead of stopping migration, they are busy with legal wrangling. Their failed policy led to this attack. This sexual assault lies on the conscience of the Brussels bureaucrats.
The PM also thanked Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini for “taking a stand” in this case. Vincenzo Figuccia, a representative of Salvini’s League party, told Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet that voters “are tired of the EU trying to turn Sicily into a refugee camp.”
Sicilians are fed up with illegal immigrants. They find it shameful that they cannot ensure proper security either for locals, or for the tourists and workers visiting the island.
Responding to Orbán’s comments, long-time Fidesz MEP Kinga Gál asked: “How many more assaults will it take before the EU Commission finally wakes up and admits these attacks are the direct consequence of illegal migration and failed migration policies?” She added that “radical change is needed!”
Hungarian State Secretary Boglárka Illés also said last week that the attack highlights the dangers of unchecked migration.
