The Biden administration and the left-liberal press in the U.S. have drastically downplayed, if not outright lied about, the surge of migration last week which saw tens of thousands of migrants cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally as Trump’s pandemic-related Title 42 asylum restrictions expired at midnight on Thursday, May 11th.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has reported that 83,000 migrants illegally crossed the United States’ southern border with Mexico last week alone—more illegal crossings than have ever been recorded in a single week in the country’s history.
“Just to put that number in perspective for you, that is equivalent to a full-capacity Dallas Cowboys football stadium crossing our border in a single week,” Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported.
While Biden’s White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called claims that the U.S. CBP is allowing or encouraging the mass release of migrants onto streets in border towns throughout the southwest “categorically false,” Fox’s on-the-ground reporting has revealed otherwise.
Meanwhile, in its front page headline on Saturday, May 13th, The Washington Post told readers that there is “no surge” but a “reset” at the border. However, at the bottom of one of the front page columns titled “Crossings Slow As Title 42 Ends,” the paper admits “unlawful crossings topped 10,000 per day this week, the highest levels ever.”
Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) addressed the expiration of Title 42 and the escalating crisis at the southern U.S. border on Thursday, May 11th, during a press conference, saying that the “massive” impending “invasion at the southern border” will bring “tragedy,” “suffering,” and “death.”
“We’re seeing an invasion at our southern border,” Cruz began. “And there are, right now, over 22,000 illegal immigrants right across the river,” he said, pointing across the Rio Grande toward Mexico.
“In less than a month, we’ve had 35,000 Venezuelans cross illegally just right here, not counting the whole rest of the border. Every day, just right here, [border agents] are encountering 90-100 Chinese nationals … being smuggled in by Mexican drug cartels,” Cruz continued, before insisting that the impending crisis was manufactured “deliberately” by Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and congressional Democrats.
“We already have the worst illegal immigration in the history of our country. And in just a few hours it’s getting worse,” he said while pointing a finger at the camera. “Joe Biden, this is your fault.”
“The people who are killed crossing illegally: That’s your fault. The women who are sexually abused crossing illegally: That’s your fault. The children who are brutalized crossing illegally: That’s your fault.”
“The people who are dying of drug overdoses—over 100,000 last year—that is your fault,” Cruz claimed emphatically.
In a separate video, the Texas Senator noted that in 2020, the last year of the Trump presidency, the United States had the lowest level of illegal immigration in 45 years. Since then, apprehensions and encounters with illegal immigrants in the U.S.-Mexico border have soared.
According to CBP data, the agency carried out a total of 646,822 enforcement actions along the United States’ southern border with Mexico in fiscal year 2020—the final year of Trump’s presidency. Under the Biden administration, eight months into the fiscal year of 2023, the figure has ballooned to 1,544,087.
