Bloodstains and stab wounds: Germany has been shaken by a series of serious stabbings. Incidents in Berlin, Lüneburg, Friedrichshafen, and Duisburg have raised concerns about escalating knife violence involving both adults and minors, prompting ongoing police investigations.
In Berlin’s Treptow-Köpenick district on the evening of Friday, January 25th, a 19-year-old man was seriously wounded in a knife attack at a bus stop when two unknown assailants reportedly attempted to rob him. He suffered stab wounds to his chest and abdomen and was taken to hospital for surgery, while the perpetrators fled and police launched an investigation.
Later on Saturday evening, authorities reported another stabbing near Berlin’s central bus station, with a victim seriously injured and taken to hospital: the suspect remained at large and police provided few further details.
In Lüneburg, a dispute among adults escalated into violence when one man allegedly stabbed two others; the 43-year-old victim was seriously hurt and a 25-year-old suffered injuries, with authorities investigating the attempted murder incident.
A 15-year-old boy was also injured in Friedrichshafen after a knife attack following a teenage dispute, suffering a facial wound before escaping; the suspected assailant, aged 16, evaded capture.
In Duisburg, an 18-year-old woman was found seriously injured next to a large pool of blood after an apparent family dispute; a 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and police retrieved a weapon allegedly used at the scene.
The attacks fit in with a pattern of growing knife violence in Germany and across Europe more broadly.
