The top MEP for Spain’s national-conservative VOX is demanding that the ‘LGBTQ Ambassador’ for the European Parliament be dismissed from his role for posing as a transgender Virgin Mary and mocking Christians.
MEP Jorge Buxadé, the head of VOX’s Delegation in the European Parliament, has called for the immediate dismissal of Riccardo Simonetti from his role as the parliament’s ‘LGBTQ Ambassador,’ after he posed as a ‘transgender’ Virgin Mary on the front page of the self-described “queer Berlin” magazine Siegessäule, Spanish daily La Gaceta reports.
In an open letter published on the VOX’s website, Buxadé urged President of the European Parliament David Sassoli to “end any kind of collaboration with Riccardo Simonetti” and to issue a public apology for allowing the EU’s institutions to be used in a way that attacks Christians and “the cultural heritage of Member States.”
The “so-called LGBTQ Ambassador for the EU Parliament, Riccardo Simonetti, recently took part in a shameful farce to disrespect the Virgin Mary and the nativity of Jesus on the front page of a German magazine,” the Spanish MEP wrote, adding that the display attacked the beliefs of millions of European Catholics.
Buxadé then highlighted the need for EU institutions to defend “our common history, our roots, and our culture”
Calls for Simonneti’s dismissal came after the Italian newspaper Il Giornale released an internal European Commission document which urged officials to refrain from using the word “Christmas,” as well as ‘gendered terms’ like “workmen or policemen” and phrases like “ladies and gentlemen.”
