“Bad news for the pro-war lobby and good news for those who want peace,” the Hungarian FM said after the meeting: planning for the Budapest Summit is moving forward.

Any mention of a ceasefire was dismissed as naïve or labeled “Kremlin propaganda.”

The U.S. president has suggested halting the conflict along the existing front lines.

Analysts expect that Trump and Putin will meet in Budapest only once all details are agreed upon.

The White House confirmed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russia’s Sergei Lavrov also cancelled a planned meeting, while Hungarian FM Szijjártó said the summit is not off the table.

Moscow has cast doubt on the timing of the Budapest Summit, saying the meeting still requires “serious preparation.”
