“The nature and scale of maladministration I have found [within the EU] requires a broader public debate,” Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly said.
The Commission chief could see her immunity stripped as she is being sued for €50,000 in moral damages for “undermining the collective faith” in the Belgian state.
Calls for transparency in the EU institutions are only growing louder in the wake of Qatargate. As such, this new decision for private questioning will damage the credibility of the EU Parliament.
No more details have been made available to the public yet, but Politico reports that sources close to the case confirmed the reason for the suit.
