A stone in the EU’s shoe is a Poland-led loose alliance of five nations bordering Ukraine that, in a bid to protect their farmers, wish to extend a ban on the sale of Ukrainian grain, a demand that if not met, some warn they will satisfy unilaterally.
The National Platform in Defense of Transport recently voted to call for an indefinite strike, a move supported by 96% of its members.
Europe has an overall shortage of truck drivers. According to Transport Intelligence, the continent lacks as many as 400,000 drivers, as truckers have retired and fewer young people are interested in taking up the profession.
