Days after the Swedish government released crime statistics from last year which showed the number of rape incidents to have climbed by 25% from those recorded in 2017, the French interior ministry released figures that are even more shocking, revealing that instances of sexual violence in 2021 increased by 33% from the previous year.

An average of 25.3 rape incidents were reported per day in Sweden for a total of 9,240 cases in 2021, up 4% from last year’s figures and an astounding 25% from numbers recorded in 2017, according to preliminary statistical data from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå).
