A YouGov poll shows the AfD narrowing the gap with the CDU/CSU to just two points

Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party has risen to 25% support, just two points behind the ruling CDU/CSU bloc, according to a new YouGov poll.

The survey, conducted between 11 and 14 July, found that 65% of respondents were dissatisfied with the CDU/CSU-led government, despite it taking office only ten weeks ago. Just 29% said they were satisfied with its performance.

CDU leader Friedrich Merz received a negative rating from 59% of those surveyed, with only 32% viewing him favourably.

The poll also showed the Greens losing ground, while the Left Party registered a modest gain. The survey was carried out shortly after the Bundestag cancelled a scheduled vote to elect constitutional judges, although the effect of that decision on public opinion remains uncertain.
