UPDATE: Tech billionaire Elon Musk did not attend the voluntary interview he had been summoned to in Paris, with French prosecutors stating they had “taken note of the absence of the people summoned” and adding that “the presence or absence (of the people summoned) is not an obstacle to continuing the investigation.”

Previously, Musk was summoned for a voluntary interview in Paris on Monday, April 20th as part of a French probe into his social media platform, X.

French authorities issued the summons back in February as part of an investigation launched in January 2025 into allegations that X’s algorithm was used to interfere in French politics. The probe was later expanded to include the dissemination of Holocaust denial and sexual deepfakes by X’s AI chatbot, Grok.

In early February, French prosecutors searched X’s Paris offices—a move the social media giant, which denies any wrongdoing, slammed as “politicized” raids and an “abusive judicial act.”

Last July, the company had already dismissed the investigation as “politically motivated.” More recently, Musk called on Washington to back his company SpaceX against “discriminatory” European Union space satellite regulations.
