Israel’s defence minister vowed on Thursday, September 4, to inflict the biblical 10 plagues of Egypt on Yemen’s Houthi rebels after they stepped up missile attacks against Israel.
“The Houthis are firing missiles at Israel again. A plague of darkness, a plague of the firstborn—we will complete all 10 plagues,” Israel Katz posted on X. He was referring to the 10 disasters that the Book of Exodus says God inflicted on Egypt to convince the pharaoh to free the enslaved Israelites.
On the same day, the Israeli army said a missile from Yemen hit near Israel after they intercepted two missiles fired by the Houthis. The Houthi spokesman said they targeted Tel Aviv’s main airport.
The Iran-backed Houthis promised to increase attacks on Israel after Israel killed their leaders last week.
Since the Hamas pogrom in October 2023, the Houthis have launched many drone and missile attacks on Israel, supporting the Palestinians.
Israel responded with strikes in Yemen, hitting ports, power plants, and the airport in the rebel-controlled capital, Sanaa.
