AfD co-leader Tino Chrupalla has called for the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Germany.
He made the proposal at the party’s regional congress in Saxony over the weekend, presenting it as part of AfD’s long-term strategy ahead of the 2029 elections.
“Let us begin to put it into practice: with the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Germany,” Chrupalla told delegates, arguing that Germany cannot act as a sovereign country while dependent on U.S. military presence.
Germany hosts around 35,000 American troops, stationed at bases including Ramstein Air Base, Patch Barracks, and Grafenwöhr Training Area.
No major German party has previously called for a full withdrawal of U.S. forces.
Chrupalla’s remarks come as U.S. President Donald Trump has urged European countries to take greater responsibility for their own defence and signalled a possible reduction of U.S. military commitments in Europe.
AfD has previously criticised NATO and argued that Germany should avoid involvement in conflicts it does not consider to be in its national interest.
