German federal prosecutors say a Lebanese national was detained at Berlin’s main airport after he helped to obtain ammunition and plan attacks.

German police arrested a Lebanese man suspected of being a member of Hamas and of planning attacks in Europe. The suspect, identified by prosecutors as Mohammad S., was detained on Friday, January 23rd, at Berlin Brandenburg Airport after arriving on a flight from Beirut.

According to federal prosecutors Mohammad S. allegedly helped procure around 300 rounds of ammunition in August 2025 and was involved in preparations for attacks targeting Jewish and Israeli institutions. He is expected to be brought before a federal judge.

German authorities say the suspect acted in coordination with Abed Al G., one of three alleged Hamas members arrested in Germany last October. Those arrests reportedly took place during a meeting in Berlin connected to a planned weapons handover. Two of the suspects were German nationals, while one was from Lebanon. Police searches were also carried out at the time in Leipzig and Oberhausen, according to Der Spiegel.

The arrest is part of a broader series of operations against suspected Hamas networks in Germany. In November, authorities detained another Lebanese national believed to be a Hamas member near the Czech border.

Hamas, which controlled the Gaza Strip before being severely weakened by Israeli military operations, is designated as a terrorist organisation by Germany, the U.S., the United Kingdom, Israel, and several other countries. The group’s October 7 pogrom in Israel in 2023 killed around 1,200 people and saw more than 250 taken hostage.
