Several people were killed and others injured when a bus collided with a bus stop queue in central Stockholm during the Friday, November 14 afternoon rush hour, local police said.
“There are both injured and deceased people in the incident. Police are for the moment not commenting on the number, gender or ages of the victims,” said a police statement.
While rescue crews crouched down along the underside of the double-decker bus—helping pedestrians trapped underneath—police announced the bus driver had been arrested and a manslaughter investigation had been opened as a matter of routine. Driver illness could have been a factor.
The bus stop on Valhallavägen is close to the University of Technology. The vehicle itself was not officially in service at the time of the incident.
