A white man arrested after being attacked by two black assailants has walked free, with all charges against him dropped.
Cody Harper, 20, was scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 23rd after being tripped and punched. The assault, caught on video, was followed by Harper standing back up and swinging his arms, which led to him striking a female police officer on the head. His attackers made a clean getaway, also recorded.
Now the Crown Prosecution Service of England and Wales has dropped the charge against Harper, of assault on an emergency worker, on the grounds of “insufficient evidence” to prosecute.
Initially, Birmingham’s hapless police force defended the officer’s actions after video of Harper’s arrest went viral, but this did not prevent the incident from reigniting claims of “two-tier policing.”
