Flights were briefly suspended at Germany’s Bremen Airport on Sunday, November 2nd, after an unidentified drone was spotted flying overhead, marking the latest in a series of similar incidents that have disrupted air traffic across the country.
According to local police, the drone was seen “in the immediate vicinity of the airport at around 7:30 p.m. (1830 GMT).” Air traffic was halted for nearly an hour. It remains unclear who was operating the drone or where it came from.
This is not the first time German airports have faced disruptions due to drone sightings. Just last month, Munich Airport was forced to suspend flights twice in two days after drones were reported in the surrounding airspace, affecting over 6,500 passengers and dozens of flights. On October 31st, Berlin Brandenburg Airport also faced similar interruptions.
Drones have also been spotted in recent months over military bases, industrial sites and critical infrastructure, including incidents in Denmark, Norway, Poland, Romania, and Estonia.
German authorities have repeatedly warned that drones pose a growing threat to security, following a series of incursions around airports and military sites this year.
