Late on Friday, August 22nd, a person was injured in a shooting inside a building in the Schaerbeek district of Brussels, near Liedtsplein. The incident is part of a wider pattern of gun violence that has plagued the city throughout the year, also during the summer months.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged and has returned home. The investigation is ongoing, and no suspects have been arrested so far.
The number of shootings in the Brussels-Capital Region has risen in recent months, with Anderlecht identified as the most affected municipality.
Another shooting occurred in Schaerbeek on August 7, which remains under investigation. This was 49th firearm incident recorded in the Belgian capital in 2025.
A man was also taken into custody in connection with shootings that occurred on August 5 and 6 in the Sint-Jans-Molenbeek district.
Earlier, on July 5, a man was shot dead at Place Louise in central Brussels.
Police have intensified efforts to track down gang members believed to be involved in an ongoing drug war, but violence continues in some of Brussels’ most troubled neighborhoods.
