Bulgaria witnessed dozens of local demonstrations as citizens took to the streets on Sunday, June 1st. Mainly organised by right-wing political party Revival, the events set out opposition to the country’s scheduled membership of the Eurozone next year.
Participants condemned “the Brussels dictatorship” and “Western imperialism,” earning the praise of current President Rumen Radev—who last month called for a referendum on the adoption of the euro—for expressing their “free will.”
Following earlier delays, the European Commission will publish on Wednesday, June 4th, its audit into whether Bulgaria is ready to enter the Eurozone from January 1st next year.
