The Danish government has however confirmed it has no plans to recognise a Palestinian state in the near future.

On Sunday, August 24th, more than 10,000 people took part in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Copenhagen, calling for an end to the war in Gaza and urging Denmark to recognise the state of Palestine.

As could be expected, large international NGOs such as Oxfam, Greenpeace, and Amnesty International (that have not taken the trouble to speak up for the Israeli hostages starved by their Palestinian captors) took part in the march, as well as unions, political parties, artists’ collectives, and other left-wing activists, including ‘selfie-yacht’ star Greta Thunberg.

Gathering outside the Danish parliament, the demonstrators waved flags and carried banners, chanting “Stop Arms Sales,” “Free Free Palestine,” and “Denmark Says No to Genocide.”

Although Denmark is traditionally a supporter of Israel, Copenhagen has said it wants to use its current presidency of the Council of the European Union to increase pressure on the Israeli government to end the war in Gaza.
