Leaders of the emerging Czech coalition—ANO, SPD, and the Motorists’ Party—have agreed on a coalition deal which they plan to sign on Monday, November 3rd, the day the new Chamber of Deputies convenes.
While most details are settled, the parties still need to clarify some programmatic contradictions in the government’s policy statement. They are also negotiating changes to the rules of procedure to make the Chamber more effective.
Preliminary agreements suggest SPD leader Tomio Okamura could become Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies with the number of deputy chairmen reduced to four. Committee leadership positions will be distributed among coalition and opposition parties: ANO will lead five committees, SPD three and the Motorists two. Opposition parties will lead the remaining committees, while the Pirate Party received no leadership posts.
This agreement sets the stage for a fully operational coalition government in the Czech Republic in the coming weeks.
