Danish Church Under Fire for “Cultural Self-Disarmament”

Last week in Copenhagen, Coptic-American historian Raymond Ibrahim was awarded the Sappho Prize by the Free Press Society, recognizing two decades of work documenting the systematic persecution of Christians across the world. However, despite formal invitations sent directly to every Danish bishop, not a single member of the church leadership attended the ceremony—or even responded to the outreach.

This absence stands in stark contrast to the January 2024 festive service at Aarhus Cathedral held in honor of the new royal couple. On that occasion, an imam was officially invited to participate in the liturgy, where he appeared wearing a political scarf bearing the left-wing slogan “Free Palestine.” Church authorities failed to intervene during the service and did not issue any subsequent statement regarding the display of political symbols during a royal celebration.
