The Dutch capital was brought to a standstill on Thursday April 3rd, following an explosion near the war memorial in Dam square. A red car was driven into the pedestrian area, before a male with his clothes on fire escaped from the vehicle.
Police have described the fire as deliberate and are holding the driver—a 50-year-old Dutchman from Noord Holland—responsible, with an arrest expected as soon as he is discharged from hospital. The incident follows a mass-casualty stabbing attack in the same location last week in which five people were seriously wounded.
