NATO has confirmed that a drone was spotted close to a Ukrainian aircraft at Germany’s Leipzig/Halle Airport, prompting authorities to suspend flights briefly overnight.
The incident disrupted airport operations during the early hours of Wednesday as police and emergency services responded.
According to Bild, initial tests suggest the drone may have been carrying explosives that failed to detonate because of a faulty mechanism. Authorities are continuing to investigate the serious security breach.
