With over 111 UAVs intercepted but 20 direct hits recorded, Ukraine’s air defenses are struggling to contain a renewed Russian offensive that to Zelensky is a deliberate hit on civilian life.

The brief, U.S.-brokered reprieve in the Russo-Ukrainian war came to a violent end on May 13th, as a massive wave of Russian drones claimed nine lives across Ukraine.

The attacks began just hours after the three-day ceasefire expired on May 11th night—a truce both sides had already accused each other of violating.

President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of more UAV and missile waves to come, reporting that over 100 drones were still active in Ukrainian airspace. Kyiv retaliated overnight, striking a gas processing plant in Russia’s Astrakhan region and industrial sites in Yaroslavl, signaling a definitive return to high-intensity aerial warfare.
