Estonian Finance Minister Jürgen Ligi believes Europe must finance Ukraine beyond all budgetary limits because what is at stake is the defence of liberal democracy and human lives.
He stressed that due to the more restrained role of the United States, Europe is bearing an ever greater burden, which is causing domestic political tensions in several countries.
The EU has already decided on joint borrowing to support Ukraine, but the use of frozen Russian assets is currently meeting resistance.
According to Ligi, “Europe must continue to finance Ukraine if the United States cuts itself off from its allies,” and “there must be no budgetary constraints when it comes to existential issues from the point of view of liberal democracy and human lives.”
