On Wednesday, November 5th, the European Parliament’s Women’s Rights Committee voted on a draft resolution to the European Commission supporting the ‘My Voice, My Choice’ Citizens’ Initiative. The committee adopted the pro-abortion resolution with 26 votes in favour and 12 against.

The ‘My Voice, My Choice’ initiative seeks to expand access to abortion in all EU countries and provide European Union funding for it.

The draft resolution adopted today calls on the Commission to establish “an opt-in financial mechanism to be open to all EU countries on a voluntary basis, supported by EU funding, to ensure solidarity. This financial mechanism would enable EU countries to provide access to safe termination of pregnancies in accordance with their domestic laws for anyone who still lacks access to safe and legal abortion,” a European Parliament press release said.

The outcome of the vote is bad news for pro-life Europeans, who believe that freedom of choice cannot exist without respect for life and that Europe should prioritize policies supporting mothers, families and economic stability.

Conservatives emphasize that strong families are essential for Europe’s future, pointing to demographic challenges and the need to reinforce family and social cohesion rather than advancing abortion as a universal right.
