According to research by the prestigious American institute McLaughlin & Associates, Fidesz–KDNP remains the most popular political force in Hungary—with the main opposition Tisza Party lagging behind in the electoral contest.
The survey commissioned by Index found that Fidesz–KDNP would have won a theoretical election held on Sunday, February 8th. This reflects the fact that a significant portion of voters perceive risks in a potential change of government led by Péter Magyar.
According to Center for Fundamental Rights analyst Levente Szikra, while there is still a long time until the April election and a clear race is underway, Fidesz–KDNP will enter the official campaign period from a position of strength.
The analyst also pointed out that the messages of the two main political forces are distinctly different:
Fidesz–KDNP would choose the Hungarian path, while the Tisza Party would choose the Brussels path.
