Finnish President Alexander Stubb declared in a speech in Helsinki that the world has entered a new nuclear era in which the role of nuclear weapons is growing once again.
As an example, he cited the United States’ upcoming nuclear test, which is a response to missile tests by Russia and North Korea. According to Stubb, this is leading to a weakening of arms control and the international security system.
He emphasised that through its NATO membership Finland enjoys nuclear protection, and that it is important to understand nuclear deterrence. Finland remains committed to supporting Ukraine.
